One and the Same #MFRWHooks

It’s Book Hook Wednesday again.logo book hooks

Because I just finished (hopefully) the edits for my up new release with The Wild Rose Press, here’s a bit about my first romance with them.

Hey, it only took me ten years .

Ten years plus a dozen or so more books published. Three publishers shutting down on me.  Ten books reverted back (I think.) Republished two of them and plan on rewriting six. One I put on Wattpad and the last I gave up on.

A deep bass voice roared, stopping her near the sofa and loosening the beats of her heart into a rapid rush of a thundering waterfall...She recognized that voice.

A taste of One and the Same

A deep bass voice roared, stopping her near the sofa and loosening the beats of her heart into a rapid rush of a thundering waterfall…

She recognized that voice.

“Matt,” she whispered. “No!”

He lifted her off her feet and threw her down on the red and green flowered sofa, capturing her hands high up over one of the armrests. She whispered his name again, feeling the heat burning off his body like rays of a tanning bed in the middle of a Seattle rainstorm.

“Matt.”oneandsame_w2526_300

“Kate?” Mint scented breath breezed over her face, sending her heart rate once again dangerously out of control. “Damn it, I could have hurt you.”

Jerking up off her melting body, he moved to the nearest lamp and switched it on before twisting around to face her. Nothing showed on his impassive face. “Sit up.”

“Matt.”

“Get up.” Dark eyes glared at her, focusing on the exposed expanse of her tiny middle. “And you might as well cover up, it won’t work on me.”

“What won’t work on you?”

“I don’t care how sexy you are, how beautiful you look laying there in the dim light, TopNotch Security is not going to finance that damn television show.” He glared harder at her. “I don’t know what Erin was trying to do, bringing you here, but it won’t work. My answer is still no.”

Some Bets Are Better than Others #mfrwhooks

Hey, it’s Wednesday again. That’s means it’s time for book hooks.

logo book hooksI’ve got another little snippet of one of my sexiest romance so far, Winning the Bet. The first time the readers experience the heroine and hero together.

Enjoy.

“Fridays are always so dreadfully slow. It makes the day go a bit faster,” Phillip declared. “And it’s harmless fun.”

“Then why don’t we ever bet on something different? Like who will get the strangest guy or the oldest woman?” Maggie shook her head. “Or the most frightened, dependent child or skeletal-thin girl?” She glanced at Phillip. “Or the prettiest girl?”

“Well, what would be the fun of that?”

“Oh, Phillip, you will never get it.” Karen snorted at the man before staring hard at Maggie. “And you are so…unbelievable. Your divorce was final six months ago.” She moved closer to the desk and leaned over her. “Hell, your marriage was over for a year before you even filed for divorce.”

She didn’t want to think about that. Maggie didn’t want to think of her marriage at all. She was just glad she’d never had a child with the bastard. “I shouldn’t have ever married him.”

“Maybe not,” Karen said. “But that has nothing to do with the sexy guy out there.”winningthebet_medium

Maggie swallowed down bitterness as she slid from her stool and walked through the lab toward the opened door. She peeked into the waiting area, spying the man in question sitting in one of the black chairs near the middle. One man sat in a seat opposite the doorway and two older gentlemen and one woman sat at the farthest end. The younger man moved and she refocused her attention on him. Wide shoulders filled the expanse of his seat, one hard, tanned arm lay on the side of his chair, while the other lay in his lap. Both hard-muscled legs stretched out toward the empty chairs in front of him.

“Hello.”

Got her staring. Interested? (I hope you are maybe a little bit.) Here’s where you can get the book.

Love On The Risky Side–Mariah Ankenman

Welcome to a Book Blast.

Read the BLURB here:MediaKit_BookCover_LoveontheRiskySide_w11064_750

Falsely accused of the murder of her best friend, Kayla Jenkins is on the run for her life. She ends up lost in dark, snowy woods off some backcountry road in the middle of nowhere. Frightened and colder than she’s ever been in her life, she almost thinks she’s hallucinating when a warrior on a white steed saves her.

In all his years as the sheriff of Peak Town, Colorado, Jake Ryder has never come across a half-frozen woman alone in the woods. She’s terrified…and lying to him, yet something about her calls to him on a primal level.

Even with her trust of law enforcement lower than the harsh temperature, Kayla finds it difficult to keep her secrets hidden from the kind and far too handsome sheriff. But as her faith in Ryder grows, she not only risks the real murderer finding her, but losing the one thing she has searched for her whole life and only just found…love.

And one of the books EXCERPTS here:

“My name is Jake Ryder, but most folks call me Ryder.” When she didn’t return the introduction, he continued. “Can I ask how you came to be all the way out here in the middle of the night?”

Giving a guarded glance from the horse back to him, she simply said, “Got lost.”

And they say women were chatty. Hell, he had a pet parrot as a kid that talked more than this woman. Not a problem. As sheriff, he was used to interrogating uncooperative suspects. Not that she was a suspect, yet.

“Got lost…” He looked her over. Big, red, winter coat, long dark slacks and—were those high heels? “…shopping?”

Honestly, who the hell wears heels in the woods?

She scowled, wrapping her arms around herself. “My car ran off the road. I—I got out to find help. Wandered off the road and got lost.”

Something about her story smelled like Wind Chaser’s stall after feeding time. “Why didn’t you call Triple A?”

Her gaze darted to the side. “Cell died.”

Yeah, and I’m the King of England.

“You need a ride back to your car?”

Her eyes widened. “On that thing?”

“Her name is Wind Chaser, and yes. Did you think I had a car hidden in the trees?”

Her jaw clenched at his sarcasm. Well, excuse him. It was dark, cold, and the last thing he wanted to do was be out here trying to pull a story out of Ms. Lying-Crazy-Lady.

Hearts at Seaside by Addison Cole

Cover_Seaside_HeartsSweet with Heat: Seaside Summers features a group of fun, flirty, and emotional friends who gather each summer at their Cape Cod cottages. They’re sassy, flawed, and so easy to relate to, you’ll be begging to enter their circle of friends!

Hearts at Seaside by Addison Cole is the sweet edition of New York Times bestselling author Melissa Foster’s steamy romance novel Seaside Hearts. The stories and characters remain the same and convey all of the passion you expect between two people in love, without any explicit scenes or harsh language.

In HEARTS at SEASIDE…

Jenna Ward is vivacious, spontaneous, and confident—except when she’s around the man who stole her heart years earlier, strikingly handsome, quiet, and reliable Pete Lacroux. After years of trying to get his attention and overwhelmed from dealing with her mother’s new cougar lifestyle, Jenna’s giving up on Peter—and is ready to explore other men.

As the eldest of five siblings, with an alcoholic father to care for, boat craftsman Pete Lacroux always does the right thing and has no time for a real relationship. He’s looking forward to seeing his friend Jenna, a welcome distraction who’s so sexy and painfully shy that she equally entertains and confuses him.

When Jenna picks up a hard-bodied construction worker, jealousy ignites Pete’s true feelings, and he’s unable to ignore the desires for Jenna he never realized he had. But Pete’s not the quiet guy he appears to be, and his life is anything but conducive to a relationship. Can Jenna handle the real Pete Lacroux—the most alpha male she’s ever seen—or will she crack under pressure? And can Pete reclaim the life he once had without tearing apart his family?

Excerpt One:

There should be an unwritten rule about drooling over construction workers, but Jenna Ward was sure glad there wasn’t. She sat on the porch of the Bookstore Restaurant, soaking up the deliciousness of the three bronzed males clad in nothing more than jeans and glistening muscles that flexed and bulged like an offering to the gods as they forced thick, sticky tar into submission. Their jeans hung low on strong hips, gripping their powerful thighs like second skins and ending in scuffed and tarred work boots. What red-blooded woman didn’t get worked up over a gorgeous shirtless man in work boots?

Heaven help her, because she needed this distraction to take away her desire for Peter Lacroux, which went hand in hand with summers on the Cape and consumed her in the nine months they were apart. She zeroed in on one particularly handsome blond construction worker. His hair was nearly white, his jaw square and manly. She wanted to march right out to the middle of the road that split the earth between the restaurant and the beach and be manhandled into submission. Right there on the tar. Wrestled and groped until all thoughts of Pete evaporated.

“Wipe the drool from your chin, chica.” Amy Maples handed Jenna a margarita and, pointedly, a fresh napkin, as she settled into the chair across from her. “Goodness, woman. What’s up with you this summer? I swear you’re in heat. I can practically smell your pheromones from over here.”

Jenna gulped her drink and righted her red bikini top, which was trying its hardest to relieve itself of her enormous breasts. Even her bikini top was ready for a man. A real man. A man who craved her as much as she craved him.

Jenna reluctantly turned away from Testosterone Road and faced her best friends. The women she had spent her summers with here in Wellfleet, Massachusetts, for as long as she could remember and the women she hoped would help her through her most important summer ever.

Need Help on What to Write

I can’t figure out what manuscript to work on along with the fourth book of my Winter Creek, Montana series, so I’ve decided to give away the first paragraph of each one of my unfinished ones.

Maybe I’m strange, but I like to work on two manuscripts at a time. When I get blocked in one, I have the other as backup.

And I always get blocked somewhere in the middle. Never fails.

Here’s the first paragraph of The Marshall’s Lady for you.

She wanted to be anywhere but here.

Short and to the point, yet it set up Kim’s story well.

And here are the choices.

A Search for Forgiveness

(Actually this is the one I should choose because I only have a chapter and a half to write. I have to fix up the conflict a bit, though.)

Her temper would get the better of her, if she wasn’t careful. Rina needed to get her anger under control before she did something really crazy. Like strangle that lawyer. Dragging in a cleansing breath, she peaked out the window of the diner, seeing nothing but the shadowy reflection of an unhappy, upset woman.

The Treasure Myth

(Mystery with a ghost and a buried treasure.)

She would recognize Jed Forrest anywhere. “What are you doing here?”

False Allegations

(Romantic suspense involving stolen diamonds.)

Her hazy gaze focused on the sign showing she’d reached her final destination. Colorful letters spelled out the name of her new temporary home—Hidden River RV Park, as long trapped tears escaped and slid slowly down her cheeks. Over a year had passed since her husband’s fatal accident; hundreds of miles separated her from the site. From the outskirts of Atlanta to a small town a few dozen miles from San Antonio, Texas, she’d traveled the interstates with no tears.

Matchmaker

(The first book about a trio of elderly matchmakers. Contemporary romance)

Sunlight just began to brighten the sky when Abby Thomas slipped out of her vehicle. She took in the quiet calmness, breathing in the peace of the silence. Soon the air would be filled with noise and confusion, talking, yelling voices and traffic sounds, but it also would be ripe with the scents of sweet and savory bake goods.

Untitled

(Paranormal about a psychic and her pain-in-the-butt (dead) grandmother.)

For the first time in longer than she could remember, Jane Bellwood slept well. No nightmares invaded her rest, causing her to moan and cry out in the dead of night. No spectral man or woman, no boy or girl, no child screamed in her mind for help. For once, she awoke refreshed and rested.

Do any speak to you?

BLURB:

“He’s back.”

Words Macy Donovan hoped to never hear.

Trace Cartwright was the maverick rodeo cowboy who broke her heart, leaving her on the steps of the church on the eve of their wedding. Now he’s returned to build his home and to lay claim to her heart … again. Macy barely survived the broken heart the first time. Does he think he can walk back into her life and take up where he left off?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt One:
Well, she was a take charge kinda gal now wasn’t she? The girl Trace Cartwright had left behind would have shrunk away into a dark corner to lick her wounds. But that’s not who she was anymore. Her eyes flew to the rearview mirror. Then her brain took over, and she spun the truck into a U-turn at the end of Main Street…good ting the sheriff was looking the other way. The element of surprise was on her side, and she would use it.
#MFRW Greatest Strength
Week 12 of the Marketing for Romance Writers 52-Week Blog Challenge. Today everyone needs to talk about our greatest strength.
So what is my greatest strength?
mfrw2017-52-week-challenge-image-300x300
I think it’s my ability to get up after I’ve fallen down.
Like most people, I’ve failed at many things. I’ve fallen many times in my life, yet I’ve always managed to get up again. Sometimes it’s harder than other times, I will admit. And sometimes I stay down longer than other times. Yet evidently I manage to get back on my feet.
No matter how many times you fall, you need to find a way  back to your feet. Every failure is a learning experience. They make you stronger and wiser. So the next time you try, things may go easier for you, better.
But what if you fail again?
Get back up.
The real failure is the person who gives up, who never tries new twinner-neverstoptryinghings again. The real failure is the person who believes all the lies the world tells us–too fat, too thin, too old,  too young, too pretty, too ugly, too poor, too rich. You are the wrong sex, or race, or religion. You come from the wrong country, state, city. Red state, blue state, fly-over state.
None of that matters, so don’t believe the lies. In God’s eyes, you are beautiful and perfect.
Never give up. And, when you fall, which you will, just take a breath, place your hands flat on the ground, bend your legs, and get back up.
And be a winner.
