Forgotten Memories #MFRWHooks

logo book hooksIt’s Book Hook Wednesday again. This time I’ve got a bit about the hero from the first book in my Winter Creek, Montana series with Beachwalk Press, Forgotten Memories. Hero and heroine will be meeting soon.

Here you go–

“It’s a herd of cattle, for crying out loud.”

“Please, Mr. Craine.” The younger man leaned toward him. “It will do you no good to get angry at us. Jack and I can’t make a decision without Jen’s input. Jack will call her, and she’ll be here soon. She’s only across the street from the bank.”

Jen, he thought. According to the sign hanging on the wall directly behind the younger man’s clean desk, Jennifer Ferguson was the history expert on the town’s original time period. Two other names joined with hers–William Longstreet, an accountant and Jack Phillips, a historical constructionist.

Adam could only imagine what this woman looked like. Probably an old crone who knows the history of town because she used to live in it, he thought with tight grin.

And, yes, he’s got it all wrong.

The blurb–

For some people ghosts are everywhere…Forgotten Memories_Medium

When rebuilding an old ghost town, a few ghosts shouldn’t be a surprise. And for Jen Ferguson, history professor and psychic, it’s par for the course. But ghosts aren’t her main worry.

After a disastrous affair, which has affected her job at the college, Jen promised her grandfather—the most important person in her life—that she would stay away from men until the end of the semester. That’s a promise she’s determined to keep, but when she meets rancher Adam Craine, it becomes a struggle. Adam’s sexy and flirty, and her psychic abilities are telling her that he might possess a very important quality the previous men in her life had been lacking…he can be trusted.

It’s a daily battle for Jen to keep her hands off of him, but she believes she can do it…until two of Winter Creek’s ghostly residents decide to up the stakes by possessing Jen and Adam’s bodies. How can Jen keep her promise with these two passionate spirits interfering?

And if all that’s not enough to deal with, now she’s having premonitions of danger which could lead to the destruction of Winter Creek.

Love On The Risky Side–Mariah Ankenman

Welcome to a Book Blast.

Read the BLURB here:MediaKit_BookCover_LoveontheRiskySide_w11064_750

Falsely accused of the murder of her best friend, Kayla Jenkins is on the run for her life. She ends up lost in dark, snowy woods off some backcountry road in the middle of nowhere. Frightened and colder than she’s ever been in her life, she almost thinks she’s hallucinating when a warrior on a white steed saves her.

In all his years as the sheriff of Peak Town, Colorado, Jake Ryder has never come across a half-frozen woman alone in the woods. She’s terrified…and lying to him, yet something about her calls to him on a primal level.

Even with her trust of law enforcement lower than the harsh temperature, Kayla finds it difficult to keep her secrets hidden from the kind and far too handsome sheriff. But as her faith in Ryder grows, she not only risks the real murderer finding her, but losing the one thing she has searched for her whole life and only just found…love.

And one of the books EXCERPTS here:

“My name is Jake Ryder, but most folks call me Ryder.” When she didn’t return the introduction, he continued. “Can I ask how you came to be all the way out here in the middle of the night?”

Giving a guarded glance from the horse back to him, she simply said, “Got lost.”

And they say women were chatty. Hell, he had a pet parrot as a kid that talked more than this woman. Not a problem. As sheriff, he was used to interrogating uncooperative suspects. Not that she was a suspect, yet.

“Got lost…” He looked her over. Big, red, winter coat, long dark slacks and—were those high heels? “…shopping?”

Honestly, who the hell wears heels in the woods?

She scowled, wrapping her arms around herself. “My car ran off the road. I—I got out to find help. Wandered off the road and got lost.”

Something about her story smelled like Wind Chaser’s stall after feeding time. “Why didn’t you call Triple A?”

Her gaze darted to the side. “Cell died.”

Yeah, and I’m the King of England.

“You need a ride back to your car?”

Her eyes widened. “On that thing?”

“Her name is Wind Chaser, and yes. Did you think I had a car hidden in the trees?”

Her jaw clenched at his sarcasm. Well, excuse him. It was dark, cold, and the last thing he wanted to do was be out here trying to pull a story out of Ms. Lying-Crazy-Lady.

Who Will Win the Bet? #MFRWhooks

Book Hooks Wednesday is here. First time I’ve taken part in the #mfrwhooks, but I’m logo book hookshoping it will be an on-going thing.. Here’s a few lines from one of my sexiest romance, Winning the Bet.

Hope you enjoy it.

Sample–

She twisted toward Phillip. “I didn’t want to take your stupid bet, so you decided to change it.”

“There’s no new bet, girl.”

She didn’t believe him. “Then what is Jack doing here?”

Phillip shrugged. “Karen invited him.”

“Don’t act like you don’t know what’s going on.” Maggie swallowed down the unexpected hint of anticipation butterflying in her stomach. “If I wanted to go out with him, I would have asked him myself.”

He looked startled. “Really?”

“Yeah, really.”

Phillip wiggled his brows and leaned toward her. “Then why didn’t you?”

“Because I didn’t want to.” So what if it was a lie? How would her friend ever figure that out? “I don’t want to go out with anyone. I’m happy with the way things are with me now.”

He shook his head. “How can you be happy when you go to bed every night alone?”

And here’s the blurb of the story–

Now Maggie has something else to worry about—her heart.

Maggie and Jack were introduced to the kinkier side of sex by partners with the wrong idea about the lifestyle. They are now careful and leery around others, and for good reason. Jawinningthebet_mediumck is afraid he will hurt the women he dates, and Maggie is just afraid.

The two live in the same apartment complex, and they’re very aware of each other, but that’s as far as things have gone. Neither one of them knows how to get past the mental block. Then one day Jack shows up at the VA clinic where Maggie works, and their lives begin to change due to the interfering actions of her coworkers and a stupid bet.

When Jack suddenly shows up at their usual Friday night dinner out, Maggie ends up spending the night with him. It’s a passionate, sexy encounter, and they both begin to hope that they might be able to get past their previous experiences. But things are still not well. The two may have given each other their bodies, but now they have to decide if they can give their hearts. And the trust required to do that doesn’t come easily.

Claiming the Maverick’s Heart by Debra Holt

CLAIMING THE MAVERICK’S HEARTMediaKit_BookCover_ClaimingtheMavericksHeart

by Debra Holt

BLURB:

“He’s back.”

Words Macy Donovan hoped to never hear.

Trace Cartwright was the maverick rodeo cowboy who broke her heart, leaving her on the steps of the church on the eve of their wedding. Now he’s returned to build his home and to lay claim to her heart … again. Macy barely survived the broken heart the first time. Does he think he can walk back into her life and take up where he left off?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt One:
Well, she was a take charge kinda gal now wasn’t she? The girl Trace Cartwright had left behind would have shrunk away into a dark corner to lick her wounds. But that’s not who she was anymore. Her eyes flew to the rearview mirror. Then her brain took over, and she spun the truck into a U-turn at the end of Main Street…good ting the sheriff was looking the other way. The element of surprise was on her side, and she would use it.
#MFRW Greatest Strength
Week 12 of the Marketing for Romance Writers 52-Week Blog Challenge. Today everyone needs to talk about our greatest strength.
So what is my greatest strength?
mfrw2017-52-week-challenge-image-300x300
I think it’s my ability to get up after I’ve fallen down.
Like most people, I’ve failed at many things. I’ve fallen many times in my life, yet I’ve always managed to get up again. Sometimes it’s harder than other times, I will admit. And sometimes I stay down longer than other times. Yet evidently I manage to get back on my feet.
No matter how many times you fall, you need to find a way  back to your feet. Every failure is a learning experience. They make you stronger and wiser. So the next time you try, things may go easier for you, better.
But what if you fail again?
Get back up.
The real failure is the person who gives up, who never tries new twinner-neverstoptryinghings again. The real failure is the person who believes all the lies the world tells us–too fat, too thin, too old,  too young, too pretty, too ugly, too poor, too rich. You are the wrong sex, or race, or religion. You come from the wrong country, state, city. Red state, blue state, fly-over state.
None of that matters, so don’t believe the lies. In God’s eyes, you are beautiful and perfect.
Never give up. And, when you fall, which you will, just take a breath, place your hands flat on the ground, bend your legs, and get back up.
And be a winner.
#MFRWauthor 7 Guilty Pleasures
mfrw2017-52-week-challenge-image-300x300This is week 10 in the MRFW 52-week blog challenge.  (Yeah, yeah, I know. I’m not doing so well.) Today post is about seven guilty pleasures.
Let me think–
  1. A glass of wine almost every day. (I had two glasses tonight.)
  2. Staying in my pj all day long.
  3. Watching a whole season of Falling Skies while laying in bed. (Love this show.)
  4. Reading book after book on my Kindle when I should be writing. (Hey, it’s for research.)
  5. Petting my cat.(He has the loudest purr.)
  6. Speaking my mind and sharing on social media. (Just because.)
  7. And my number one favorite not-so guilty pleasure is — watching Falling Skies while in my pj with bottle of wine.
So I live a boring life. What can I say?
#MFRWauthors No, I Have to Choose a Book Title
How do I choose a book title?mfrw2017-52-week-challenge-image-300x300
I have a hard time choosing the right title for my WIPs. Usually I start off with something like ‘Winter Creek series, Book Four’ or ‘Bri’s Story’. That way at least I have a title–kind of. Then usually some words I’d just typed in the story comes alive to me and I use those for a title. And other times I used the jobs of the heroine or hero. For instance, The Dressmaker’s Dilemma and Trusting the Cowboy.
What upsets me is when I find a title I like on another book already published, so I feel like I need to change it. For instance, I changed the title of one finished, still unpublished story three times until I found the perfect title for it. First it was called ‘Finding the Right One’ which changed to ‘Listening to Her Heart’ and then finally, “A Second Chance in Panama’. Wonderful. Then I checked on a publishers website and found a recently published book with same title except for the last word. Growl.
Unfortunately finding a good title for one of the books I’m writing is the hardest thing for me. Sometimes the book is completely written and I still don’t have a title for it.
Wish it was easier.
