Another Page One

This is the first page of the last book in the Winter Creek series from Beachwalk Press. No name for this book yet, so I’m just calling it Bri’s Story.

Enjoy.

Quietness was something Jonathan Longstreet Williams craved more than anything, but for some reason the silence now irritated him. He liked being a part of the enthusiasm of the sponsors and visitors to the town, the excitement of the daily shoot-outs, special weekend shows and the lively cattle drive going through the town. He enjoyed being one of the founding members of WCHA—the founding member—but now all he wanted was the solitude of winter time .
Unfortunately this winter had to be different.
Jack Phillips, the other male member of WCHA’s town board, deciding to stay was fine. It was the other person’s presence at the hotel that set him on edge.
Brianna O’Malley .
No good could come from getting closer to her. If the decade old age difference was the only thing keeping them apart, he’d be fine with it. He dated women younger than Bri, yet it wasn’t the only thing. Or the main thing. “Why didn’t you stay in New York?”
No answer came to his question. His cell phone rang a second later and he seized it. He didn’t even look at the number before pressing accept. “WCHA, Longstreet speaking.”
“Still answering with your middle name I see,” a familiar voice said. “Does that mean you haven’t told your friends who you are?”
“Let it go, Peter.”
“I’m just kidding with you, Jon.” His younger brother said. “I understood why you gave the dean a variation of your name. I don’t agree but I do understand.”
“Thanks Peter.” He pushed the hint of guilt away and relaxed in his seat. “We always did understand each other.”
“More than you know, big brother.” He let out a loud breath. “I doubt anyone changes much in that short a time.”
His ex-fiancée did, and so did Brianna. He pushed those thoughts away and stood from his chair. Stepping toward the lone window, he leaned against the wall and glanced in the direction of the hotel. He could only see a corner of it from his position. “If you say so, Peter.”
“Change isn’t bad.”
“Some is,” he whispered.
“Jon?”

First Page…

…of Trusting Love. I’m hoping to sale this one to The Wild Rose Press. It’s a sequel to Without Love.

Chapter One

Dr. Rebecca Greenlee sighed and took another drink of her coffee.
Six months. She had to stay in this small town for six months. “Why did you do it, Aunt Frannie?”
Becca had never understood her father’s oldest and only sister. She’d always known she would inherit this house and the big part of her life-savings, yet she’d also known it would be with no strings attached. Those strings were added six months ago, three months before her elderly aunt finally said her last good-bye.
And Becca still didn’t understand why.
Yet finding out she had to stay at the house for six full months did fit well with her current situation.
Shit, Becca didn’t want to think about that now.
A gaggle of children’s voices and laughter filtered through the early morning air. Slight bitterness singed as she turned toward the enormous house on her left. A big yellow school bus stopped at the foot of the drive and three noisy boys leaped into it. A few second later two quieter girls followed suit. The children’s very pregnant mother stood near the fence, waving goodbye.
Five children? Should any one woman have that many offspring?
“Morning, Carrie.”
“Hi, Jack.” The pregnant lady yelled back. “Off to solve another case.”
“If only.”
Time to go inside, Becca thought.
“Good morning, new neighbor.”
Damn, why was she still sitting out on her porch anyway?
“Looks like it going to be a nice day.”
Becca’s heart leaped in her throat. A deep-down part of her sensed exactly why she hadn’t leaped back into the house at his first words.
“No comment on the weather today?”
Why in the hell was his deep, rumbling voice affecting her so easily anyway? Every morning since the day after she’d arrived in Emerald Falls , North Carolina, she’s been awakened by the deep, pleasing tone of his greeting to her pregnant neighbor. Yesterday she’d been awake and at the living room window a minute before his usual loud yell, just so she could get a glimpse of the man behind the sexy voice.
And today she decided to sit on her porch swing, drinking her coffee, hoping he’ll come by and say hello.
Idiot.
One of the reasons her life was in such turmoil was because of a man. Letting another’s stupid voice get to her wasn’t good. Becca didn’t need the complication now. She had enough worries. The only reason she’d decided to follow the conditions set up in her aunt’s will was so she could be alone. Six months was enough time to get over Mark—once and for all. But would it be enough time to figure out what she wanted to do with the rest of her life?
“You’re Frannie’s niece, right?” He set one foot on the bottom step and leaned onto his knee. His dark brown eyes—almost black—blazed into her. “Becki, right?”

If you want to get to know Rebecca, why not read Without Love? The list price is $3.99 but right now you can get it for $3.03.

Goddess Fish 10th Anniversary

Welcome to the Goddess Fish Promotions Tenth Anniversary Month Long Celebration!

Who is Goddess Fish Promotions? And what do we do? We’re glad you asked!

We didn’t want your visit here to be dry and boring, so we decided to have a poetry competition and put what we do into verse. Here are the initial entries:Us

Marianne:

Roses are Red.

Violets are Blue.

I’m awful at poetry.

Coffee.

Judy:

We can edit your book

find things you didn’t see

It will be fun to look

at the changes from me.

Yeah, for some reason, Judy won!

Even better, her poem is correct. We DO offer editing as one of our options. Here are a couple of testimonials from clients:

I worked with Marianne on a complete edit and was very happy with the results. Her feedback was clear, easy to follow, and she probed on things I hadn’t thought of. She was also responsive whenever I had questions and helped me work through a few issues. Her feedback and guidance improved the quality of my manuscript, all at a very fair price. I’m working on my next book and plan to use their services again.

Choosing the right editor for a project is incredibly important to an author. Let’s face it, we want the best for our books. When I was considering editors for my first indie-published book, Regenerate, I naturally thought of Goddess Fish Promotions–and I’m so glad I did.

Marianne Arkins and Judy Thomas are incredibly attentive and professional during the entire editing process. Their input was invaluable and the story is much stronger because they cared enough to help unsnarl plot points and find order in the chaos..

I can’t wait to work with them again. Truly, a top-notch editorial team! – Sarita Leone, award-winning author of Regenerate

We also offer Virtual Book Tours, Graphic Design, Social Media Promotion and more. You can see more testimonials here.

We hope you enjoyed getting to know us a little (more information is below) and we’d like to do the same. We’d LOVE to see a little poem that tells us a bit about you in the comments. We’ll be awarding random book giveaways and $5 Amazon GCs to some of the best poetry we find. It might not be at every stop, but when something really makes us smile, we’ll reward it! Come on, be daring…

And now, more about us:

 About Goddess Fish Promotions

Goddess Fish Promotions was established October 14, 2008. Why? Well, when Marianne became a published author and got her the first taste of trying to promote a book on a budget, there was only one other virtual book tour company in place at the time, and their fees were simply too high for a small press author. After coordinating and running her own tour, she knew other authors could use the same service for a reasonable price. Thus, Goddess Fish Promotions was born.

Because both Judy and Marianne were authors and editors prior to running Goddess Fish Promotions, they approach the business with a unique point of view, and treat their clients how they would expect to be treated.

The people behind the fish

Judy Thomas

Judy has a college degree in English and she’s worked in retail, education, at her local library as well as an editor for a small press and for the now defunct ShadowKeep Ezine. She’s also a published author so can see things from both sides of the fence. In 2013, she “retired” and now spends her days helping authors make their dream come true—as well as working as much as she can with her local theater group.

Marianne Arkins

Grammar freak and coffee lover, Marianne wrote her first novel at ten years old, built her first commercial website in 2000, and published for the first time in 2006. She worked as a professional editor for just over a year, and knows what it’s like to write, edit and promote a book on a budget.

More about Goddess Fish here

What are books for?
Judy: Books, for me, have always been a chance to be somewhere else for a while. When I enter the pages of the book, I’m transported and the everyday worries and chores disappear for a while.

Marianne: Books are an escape. They’re a way to learn. They are entertainment and they’re friends. I can’t imagine a world without books.

Are you fun to go on vacation with?
Judy: Yep.. I’ve very flexible and love to go with the flow. I’m always up for a new adventure!

Marianne: Of course, I think I am, but to verify I suppose you’d need to ask people I vacation with.

How do you feel about being interviewed?
Judy: It’s a lot more stressful being on THIS side of the questions! At least it’s through the printed word and I can go back and fix things. I would probably absolutely freeze if I had to do this live!

Marianne: As I’ve said in another place, I’m an extroverted introvert .. besides, who doesn’t like talking about themself? I’m fine with interviews, live or otherwise.

Why do you think what you do matters?
Judy: There are so many authors out there who just want to get their voices heard. If we can help them get their book out in front of someone who might fall in love with it, it makes a difference to that person.

Marianne: Because books are everything. And some of the best authors I’ve ever read have been small press authors and I want more people to love them like I do. What would this world be without books?

And here’s an excerpt for you–

“Chandra’s in the car.”

“She’s what?”

“She’s in the car. She can’t go back to the hotel.”

Still threading her hook through the yarn, she added, “You better not tell me she’s staying here.”

“Fine. I won’t tell you since you just said it.”

She shook her head back and forth as her lips tightened. Her rock became more fierce, and I feared she’d come flying off the chair.

“Aren’t you going to say anything?”

“What can I say, Dory? You blatantly ignored my request—no, my demand—to keep this child out of my life.”

“She’s not a child, Grandma. She’s a grown woman. Don’t you think you can find a little empathy in your heart to give this woman a family?”

“What did you say to me? Dory—“

The doorbell rang interrupting her thought. I told Chandra to wait in the car. Maybe this was better. Now it forced Grandma to face the truth. That’s not the way I wanted to do it, but I couldn’t very well throw Chandra out on her butt or send her back to … wherever she came from. I needed to find out where that was.

Grandma threw her crocheting items onto the floor. “I am not happy with you, young lady. Go get the door. I’ll start a pot of coffee because Lord knows I’m going to need it.”

Guess what? The author is having a giveaway.

One and the Same #MFRWHooks

It’s Book Hook Wednesday again.logo book hooks

Because I just finished (hopefully) the edits for my up new release with The Wild Rose Press, here’s a bit about my first romance with them.

Hey, it only took me ten years .

Ten years plus a dozen or so more books published. Three publishers shutting down on me.  Ten books reverted back (I think.) Republished two of them and plan on rewriting six. One I put on Wattpad and the last I gave up on.

A deep bass voice roared, stopping her near the sofa and loosening the beats of her heart into a rapid rush of a thundering waterfall...She recognized that voice.

A taste of One and the Same

A deep bass voice roared, stopping her near the sofa and loosening the beats of her heart into a rapid rush of a thundering waterfall…

She recognized that voice.

“Matt,” she whispered. “No!”

He lifted her off her feet and threw her down on the red and green flowered sofa, capturing her hands high up over one of the armrests. She whispered his name again, feeling the heat burning off his body like rays of a tanning bed in the middle of a Seattle rainstorm.

“Matt.”oneandsame_w2526_300

“Kate?” Mint scented breath breezed over her face, sending her heart rate once again dangerously out of control. “Damn it, I could have hurt you.”

Jerking up off her melting body, he moved to the nearest lamp and switched it on before twisting around to face her. Nothing showed on his impassive face. “Sit up.”

“Matt.”

“Get up.” Dark eyes glared at her, focusing on the exposed expanse of her tiny middle. “And you might as well cover up, it won’t work on me.”

“What won’t work on you?”

“I don’t care how sexy you are, how beautiful you look laying there in the dim light, TopNotch Security is not going to finance that damn television show.” He glared harder at her. “I don’t know what Erin was trying to do, bringing you here, but it won’t work. My answer is still no.”
