…of Trusting Love. I’m hoping to sale this one to The Wild Rose Press. It’s a sequel to Without Love.
Dr. Rebecca Greenlee sighed and took another drink of her coffee.
Six months. She had to stay in this small town for six months. “Why did you do it, Aunt Frannie?”
Becca had never understood her father’s oldest and only sister. She’d always known she would inherit this house and the big part of her life-savings, yet she’d also known it would be with no strings attached. Those strings were added six months ago, three months before her elderly aunt finally said her last good-bye.
And Becca still didn’t understand why.
Yet finding out she had to stay at the house for six full months did fit well with her current situation.
Shit, Becca didn’t want to think about that now.
A gaggle of children’s voices and laughter filtered through the early morning air. Slight bitterness singed as she turned toward the enormous house on her left. A big yellow school bus stopped at the foot of the drive and three noisy boys leaped into it. A few second later two quieter girls followed suit. The children’s very pregnant mother stood near the fence, waving goodbye.
Five children? Should any one woman have that many offspring?
“Hi, Jack.” The pregnant lady yelled back. “Off to solve another case.”
Time to go inside, Becca thought.
“Good morning, new neighbor.”
Damn, why was she still sitting out on her porch anyway?
“Looks like it going to be a nice day.”
Becca’s heart leaped in her throat. A deep-down part of her sensed exactly why she hadn’t leaped back into the house at his first words.
“No comment on the weather today?”
Why in the hell was his deep, rumbling voice affecting her so easily anyway? Every morning since the day after she’d arrived in Emerald Falls , North Carolina, she’s been awakened by the deep, pleasing tone of his greeting to her pregnant neighbor. Yesterday she’d been awake and at the living room window a minute before his usual loud yell, just so she could get a glimpse of the man behind the sexy voice.
And today she decided to sit on her porch swing, drinking her coffee, hoping he’ll come by and say hello.
One of the reasons her life was in such turmoil was because of a man. Letting another’s stupid voice get to her wasn’t good. Becca didn’t need the complication now. She had enough worries. The only reason she’d decided to follow the conditions set up in her aunt’s will was so she could be alone. Six months was enough time to get over Mark—once and for all. But would it be enough time to figure out what she wanted to do with the rest of her life?
“You’re Frannie’s niece, right?” He set one foot on the bottom step and leaned onto his knee. His dark brown eyes—almost black—blazed into her. “Becki, right?”
If you want to get to know Rebecca, why not read Without Love? The list price is $3.99 but right now you can get it for $3.03.
